Deccan Psychiatric Association's CME-2013

      Deccan Psychiatric Association's CME- 2013 was held on 21st & 22nd Dec 2013 at Mayur Resort, Dharwad. The conference was inaugurated by Prof. Dr Nagaraja , Director , DIMHANS Dharwad.

Inaugural address was followed by academic sessions. Sessions being

 Sessions were followed by Entertainment programme and dinner

 Karnataka Medical Council had allotted Credit points for the CME. Dr. Arunkumar C was the KMC observer. Many psychiatrists from Southern Maharashtra and Northern Karnataka had participated in the CME. Post Graduate students from various Medical colleges had attended the CME and were exposed various practical aspects of psychiatry.

COMMUNITY PSYCHIATRY PROGRAM AT ROSHNI TRUST DEADDICTION CENTRE, HANGAL

                     Roshni trust. De-addiction  and Rehabilitation centre, Hangal had organized  annual day and felicitation program for the reformed alcoholics on 16th Dec 2013. The programme as presided over by various religious leaders, reformed alcoholics and their family members, inmates of de addiction centre. Many reformed persons and their family members were felicitated and they shared their experiences before and after takin deaddiction therapy. Religious leaders addressed the gathering and spoke about the importance of alcohol free society. Dr Mahesh Desai prof and Head , Dept of Psychiatry, KIMS Hubli, delivered a lecture on hazards of alcoholism and role of deaddiction centre and rehabilitaiton centres in transforming the lives of alcoholics. PG students and interns attended this program.

COMMUNITY PSYCHIATRY PROGRAMME AT USHA'S SCHOOL FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN

                A workshop was organized at Usha's School for Exceptional Children, Gokul Road Hubli  on 15th Dec 2013. It was for the parents of differently abled children regarding "Management of behavioural problems children and stress management." 

 

The workshop was attended by around 50 parents of differently abled children of the school.

             Dr Mahesh Desai Prof & Hod Psychiatry , KIMS Hubli , addressed gathering regarding problems faced by parents, in bringing up differently abled children and management of stress associated with it. Parents shared their problems, experiences and assistance they are getting from Usha's school for exceptional children.   Dr Sahaja Kittur  Asst. Professor , KIMS Hubli spoke about problems in adolescent children and their management. The session was attended by PG students and Interns posted in the dept of Psychiatry, KIMS  Hubli. The Guests were presented with herbal soaps and paper bags prepared by children of Usha's school for exceptional children.

World Mental Health Day 2013 celebration at Court complex Hubli

                  

  
              World Mental Health day 2013 was celebrated at JMFC Court complex on 10th October 2013. The programme was attended by Judges, Advocates and Court staff. Dr. Mahesh Desai Prof and Head of the dept psychiatry KIMS Hubli, delivered a lecture on " Mental Health of older adults ". Later, a discussion on legal issues and mental health of older adults was held. The programme was attended by PG students and learned regarding the legal issues related mentally ill persons.

World Mental Health Day 2013

                 World Mental Health day 2013 was celebrated on 10th October 2013 by Dept. of Psychiatry at Psychiatry building of KIMS Hospital. The theme for this year's world mental health day is "Mental Health and Older Adults".

                 The programme was inaugurated by Dr Mahesh Desai , Head of the Dept. and Dr. Sunil Yaligar Senior Resident Dept of Psychiatry. The programme started with an invocation song ,seeking blessings from the almighty by Dr. Smitha Karnik, Intern. The guests were welcomed by Dr. Ashay Telang. Then a lecture on Mental health in geriatric age group was delivered by Dr. Mahesh Desai.   Dr. Muralidhara K A , Post Graduate student, spoke about Dementia and another Post graduate student Dr Shivanand B Hiremath spoke about depression in elderly. Vote of thanks was given by Dr Ashraf, Intern.

                  The gathering was attended by almost 100 people including senior citizens,  undergraduate students, patients and their family members. The whole programme was conducted in Kannada. There was a question answer session following the lectures. Many of the audience cleared their doubts regarding mental illnesses in elderly. This session was followed by Tea and snacks to the participants.
