World Mental Health day 2013 was celebrated on 10th October 2013 by Dept. of Psychiatry at Psychiatry building of KIMS Hospital. The theme for this year's world mental health day is "Mental Health and Older Adults".
The programme was inaugurated by Dr Mahesh Desai , Head of the Dept. and Dr. Sunil Yaligar Senior Resident Dept of Psychiatry. The programme started with an invocation song ,seeking blessings from the almighty by Dr. Smitha Karnik, Intern. The guests were welcomed by Dr. Ashay Telang. Then a lecture on Mental health in geriatric age group was delivered by Dr. Mahesh Desai. Dr. Muralidhara K A , Post Graduate student, spoke about Dementia and another Post graduate student Dr Shivanand B Hiremath spoke about depression in elderly. Vote of thanks was given by Dr Ashraf, Intern.
The gathering was attended by almost 100 people including senior citizens, undergraduate students, patients and their family members. The whole programme was conducted in Kannada. There was a question answer session following the lectures. Many of the audience cleared their doubts regarding mental illnesses in elderly. This session was followed by Tea and snacks to the participants.
